Idaho Supreme Court
Highest court in the state. Five Justices (one Chief Justice, four Associates), elected by voters to 6-year terms. Final authority on state law and constitutional questions. Est. Idaho Const. Art. V.
Idaho Court of Appeals
Intermediate appellate court. Four judges serving 6-year terms. Reviews appeals assigned to it by the Supreme Court, primarily criminal cases and some civil matters.
Idaho District Courts
Trial courts of general jurisdiction. Seven judicial districts across the state’s 44 counties. Handle felony criminal cases, civil disputes over $10,000, domestic relations, and probate. See Idaho Code § 1-603.
Idaho Magistrate Division
Division of the district courts handling misdemeanors, infractions, small claims (up to 10,000, and preliminary felony hearings. See Idaho Code § 1-2201.
